Quick answer
If you need wide-area panoramic coverage with PT flexibility, choose the OMVI 3i PoE. For a discreet 4K dome with excellent color night vision in a fixed view, the CX820 is the better value.
Coverage style matters more than resolution alone
Both cameras deliver color night vision, but they solve different problems. The OMVI 3i PoE uses three lenses to create a panoramic view with pan/tilt control, letting you monitor a large area without blind spots. The CX820 is a single-lens dome that focuses on one direction with 4K clarity and HDR for challenging lighting.
Installation and placement differences
Both cameras use PoE for simple single-cable setup. The OMVI 3i PoE is larger and more visible, designed for mounting where its PT range can be fully used. The CX820's compact dome design is more discreet and works well in tighter spaces like porches or hallways.
Trade-offs at a glance
- Resolution vs. coverage: The OMVI 3i PoE's 18MP is split across three lenses for a panoramic view. The CX820's single 4K sensor delivers higher per-lens detail in a fixed direction. Choose OMVI for wide area awareness; choose CX820 for sharp fixed monitoring.
- PT flexibility vs. discreet design: The OMVI 3i PoE offers pan/tilt control for active tracking. The CX820's dome is low-profile and less noticeable. If you need to follow movement, go OMVI. If stealth matters, go CX820.
- Price vs. value: The OMVI 3i PoE is priced higher at $211.19 (down from $329.99) for its multi-lens PT capability. The CX820 at $83.99 (down from $139.99) gives you excellent 4K color night vision at a lower cost. OMVI justifies its price with panoramic PT; CX820 is a budget-friendly 4K color night vision option.
